Human Cellular Tissue Therapy: An Advanced Alternative to Traditional Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cell–based therapies have long been studied as a potential solution for chronic pain, degenerative conditions, and orthopedic injuries. Traditional approaches, such as bone marrow aspiration or adipose-derived stem cell procedures, involve harvesting cells from the patient’s own body. While these methods can provide some therapeutic benefit, they also carry limitations — including invasive collection techniques, risk of infection, and reliance on cells that have aged and lost regenerative potency.

At the Radiance Pain Institute, we do not utilize bone marrow or adipose tissue harvesting. Instead, we specialize in human cellular tissue (HCT) therapy, an advanced regenerative medicine treatment that draws from a more youthful, potent, and reliable source: Wharton’s Jelly, a substance found in donated umbilical cords after planned cesarean births. This tissue is ethically obtained through accredited tissue banks, ensuring both mother and child remain unharmed.

The Limitations of Traditional Stem Cell Therapy

Adipose-Derived Therapy:

This approach uses stem cells extracted from a patient’s own fat tissue. While convenient, fat cells may also harbor toxins and inflammatory byproducts, raising questions about their safety and long-term effectiveness when reinjected into areas of injury.

Bone Marrow Therapy:

A more established technique, bone marrow aspiration requires drilling into bone to extract cells. This procedure is invasive, carries infection risk, and requires post-procedure healing. Moreover, both bone marrow and adipose-derived cells come from tissue that has aged along with the patient — meaning their regenerative potential may already be diminished.

While these approaches can provide some benefit, their limitations highlight the need for more advanced methods.

Why We Use Human Cellular Tissue (HCT) Therapy

Human cellular tissue therapy offers several advantages over traditional stem cell therapies. Wharton’s Jelly, the source of these cells, is naturally rich in:

  • Mesenchymal stem cells - capable of differentiating into bone, cartilage, tendon, and ligament tissue
  • Growth factors and cytokines - signaling proteins that accelerate healing and reduce inflammation
  • Hyaluronic acid, peptides, and collagen – key components for joint lubrication and tissue repair

Because these cells are young, vibrant, and not subject to the effects of aging, they possess exceptional regenerative capacity. When injected into injured or degenerated tissues, HCT works synergistically with the body’s own repair mechanisms to restore structure, reduce pain, and improve function.

Conditions That May Benefit from HCT Therapy

Our physicians have successfully used HCT injections to support healing and pain relief in patients with:

  • Knee pain and arthritis
  • Rotator cuff injuries and shoulder labrum tears
  • Hip and elbow pain
  • Spinal disc injuries and back pain
  • Neuropathy and nerve-related conditions
  • Plantar fasciitis and other soft-tissue injuries
  • Cartilage damage and joint degeneration

The treatment is minimally invasive, involves little to no downtime, and carries virtually no risk of rejection, as the components are biocompatible and highly potent.

At Radiance, our mission is to restore your health and your confidence. When you walk through our doors.
